Study Ablogette: Krakow

Travel

My friend and I traveled to Krakow from Budapest, so we booked a sleeper train there. Throughout my travels I have become one with the sleeper train and did not mind it.  It was also relatively cheap (50 euros) for a three person sleeper with a sink, breakfast, and above average linens.

Accommodation

We stayed at the Mosquito Hostel which was amazing! The mosquito hostel has been my favorite accommodation since studying abroad. The staff was kind, and incredibly helpful. They offer free breakfast and dinner every day, the facilities were clean and centrally located.

I also loved the sense of community, every night had a game night or theme to it and then they offered a pub crawl for all the people staying there. When we went it was quiz night and then we all went out together after.

Do’s

  • Trip to Auschwitz

    • Another great thing about the Mosquito Hostel was when we checked in we got to sign up for a guided tour to Auschwitz. We were picked up in a private van from the hostel and went with people that were staying there as well.
      • Auschwitz is an experience you must have if you get the chance.
  • Free Walking Tour

    • Again always a fan of the free walking tour, since Krakow has such a rich Jewish cultural history we opted for the free tour of the Old Jewish Quartier.
  • Schindler’s Factory Museum

    • The walking tour ended here so, we walked over and it happened to be free that day.
      • Free on Monday’s til 2 pm!
  • Hot Chocolate at Nowa Prowincja

    • Right next to the town square, so good!!
  • Lunch at Gospoda Koko

    • Cheap, huge portions, and a popular local spot for students, right next to the town square as well!

Don’t Have To’s

  • Spend a Lot of Time Here

    • Krakow is an interesting and intense place to visit, but we were only there for two days and one night and it was perfect
      • you can see the city just by walking, no need for a long stay!
